در پايان هفته گذشته رهبران 8 قدرت اقتصادي غربي در محل كمپ ديويد كه استراحتگاه رياست‌جهمور آمريكا است، جلسه‌اي برگزار كردند تا در مورد شرايط اقتصادي و سياسي جهان تصميم‌گيري كنند.
گروه جي -7 در سال 1975 ابتدا شامل شش كشور صنعتي تشكيل شد كه عبارت بودند از ايتاليا، انگلستان، آلمان، فرانسه، ژاپن و آمريكا (كانادا در سال 1976 به اين مجموعه پيوست) و در آن زمان حدود 40 درصد از توليد ملي جهان را در اختيار داشتند. پس از فروپاشي اتحاد جماهير شوروي، روسيه نيز در سال 1998به اين گروه دعوت شد و به اين ترتيب نام آن به جي -8 (8-G) تغيير يافت. تا قبل از بحران اقتصادي سال 2008 اين گروه در مقايسه با زمان تشكيل اجلاس اخير سال‌هاي بهتري را به خود ديده است. هم آمريكا . . . نخست‌وزیر پیشین مالزی تاکید کرد اگر فقط یونان از منطقه یورو خارج شود این مساله تاثیر چندانی بر بازارهای آسیایی نخواهد داشت. به گزارش فارس، ماهاتیر محمد در مصاحبه اختصاصی با شبکه بلومبرگ تصریح کرد: خروج یونان از منطقه یورو تاثیر چندانی بر کشورهای آسیایی و حوزه مدیترانه نخواهد داشت و خروج یونان می‌تواند موجب ارتقای قدرت رقابت کشورهای عضو یورو شود.
بر اساس این گزارش وی افزود: من فکر می‌کنم اگر فقط یونان از منطقه یورو خارج شود این مساله تاثیر چندانی بر بازارهای آسیایی نخواهد داشت. ماهاتیر محمد 86 ساله تازه‌ترین مقام سیاسی جهان است که درباره خروج یونان از منطقه یورو سخن گفته است.نگرانی‌ها نسبت به خروج یونان از منطقه یورو موجب کاهش 4 تریلیون دلاری ارزش سهام در بازارهای مالی بین‌المللی شده است. کریستین لاگارد رییس صندوق بین‌المللی پول نیز خروج یونان از منطقه یورو را یکی از گزینه‌های مدنظر اعلام کرده است. بر این اساس، ماهاتیر افزود: اگر یونان بار دیگر به سیستم دراخما باز گردد می‌تواند هزینه‌های خود را کاهش و قدرت رقابت این کشور را افزایش دهد. باید خروج یونان از منطقه یورو جدی گرفته شود. با وقوع بحران مالی جنوب شرق آسیا در سال 1998 میلادی بسیاری از سرمایه گذاران خارجی سرمایه‌های خود را از این کشورها خارج کردند و تایلند، اندونزی و کره‌جنوبی مجبور به دریافت کمک‌های مالی از صندوق بین‌المللی پول شدند. ارزش پول ملی کشورهای جنوب شرق آسیا در آن زمان به شدت کاهش یافت. ارزش رینگیت مالزی بیش از 89 درصد کاهش یافت.ماهاتیر محمد پنج دوره نخست‌وزیر مالزی بود و سال 2003 میلادی از قدرت کناره گیری کرد. وی در ادامه افزود: کاهش رشد اقتصادی آمریکا و اروپا بی‌شک به ضرر رشد اقتصادی مالزی نیز خواهد بود. مالزی بازارهای صادراتی مهم خود را از دست خواهد داد و این به ضرر صنایع بزرگ ما خواهد بود. کاهش رشد اقتصادی چین نیز طی ماه‌های اخیر به ضرر اقتصاد مالزی بوده است. رشد اقتصادی مالزی در سه ماه نخست امسال به کمتر از 7/4 درصد رسیده است. این رقم در سه ماه پایانی 2011 میلادی به بیش از 2/5 درصد رسیده است. رشد اقتصادی مالزی در سال 2011 میلادی به 1/5 درصد رسیده است و پیش‌بینی می‌شود این رقم امسال به 4 تا 5 درصد برسد.
